10 Reasons We Love PDO Preschool

Choosing a preschool can be tough! While a the decision can be purely guttural – just a feeling that this is the right place for your kids – there were many concrete reasons too. Here are 10 reasons that we are big fans of PDO Preschool in Shaker Heights.

Here are 10 Reasons We Love PDO:

  1.  They truly teach with love. The teachers are kind, gentle, and exude warmth, while at the same time, have this unbelievable ability to create structure and enforce rules.
  2. The parents at the school are welcoming. Being there feels like being part of an instant circle of kind and supportive friends.
  1. They teach children practical things they need for kindergarten. When I went to kindergarten orientation, the teachers said, “We only ask that the children have 2 things on the first day of school: 1) a backpack that can fit an 81/2 x 11 folder… and 2) The ability to zip up their own coat!” At PDO, our kids will learn to take the initiative and be independent.
  1. They celebrate each children’s uniqueness –quirks and all. They cherish the qualities that you cherish in your child.
  1. They encourage to children to explore the world around them. They take the kids out to play–every day. Even when there was snow on the ground. They bundle up 20 little ones in all the gear–hats, mittens, boots, coats, snow pants (most moms dread this)–and take them out to play, to slide down a hill, to go on hikes looking for teddy bears that the teachers plant along the pretty grounds.
  1. Children are encouraged to play. They guide the children in creative play to grow their little imaginations.
  1. PDO practices multi-sensory teaching. The kids learn their alphabet but in a way that doesn’t feel like work to them. Some other preschools who hand out worksheets. At PDO they learn visually, orally and through tactile learning.
  2. Their days are fun. The teachers do all the messy projects that we moms hate doing at home: making homemade play dough; messy finger painting; splashing in a water table; playing in sand. God, I hate sand.
  1. They have a big, beautiful physical space. Not every school can boast a space as perfect for preschoolers as PDO. PDO’s physical space is clean, bright and colorful. Their play area is packed with fun toys. They have a fabulous outdoor space with a great playground that is fenced in and safe with tons of ride on toys. You’ll feel completely comfortable with the idea of your children playing outside there.
  1. PDO is a joyful place. You can hear it as soon as you walk in the door: the halls are filled with giggles and delightful gasps of excitement.
