Take Care of Your Girls

The hazy lazy days of summer may inspire you to do as little as possible, but I feel it is my duty to gently remind you, you will only get busier come fall. Now is a great time to look after yourself. Exercise, try something new, meditate, and get your screening exams. Hate getting your boobs squished? Me too, but mammography can save your life. Don’t put it off.

If you are 40 and fabulous, make your first mammo appointment. Your doctor may recommend earlier screening based on family history and risk factors, but generally, the recommendation is to start yearly mammograms somewhere between the age of 40-44. Depending on findings, you should keep getting a yearly screen at least until 54, at which point, some suggest every two years. It is important to discuss with your doctor, but remember it isn’t up to her to stop procrastinating, pick up the phone and make (and keep) the appointment. Your kids have a lacrosse tournament is not an excuse to ignore your health.

" After living in Brooklyn for 18 years and studying Graphic Design at Pratt Institute, she now lives in the Jersey burbs. "I love living so close to NYC, but in my heart, I'm an Ohio girl."
