Need a boost to your Metabolism?

It’s winter and it usually means some of us can tend to pack on a few extra pounds. We are stuck inside due to the cold weather which usually causes us to eat more. Yet this winter has been so mild, I feel like I am exercising outside more than in the past. I do find I  am cooking more comfort type foods, like stews or soups. With that being said, there was a good article in The Record, January 15, 2012 written by Sachi Fujimori about Rev Up Your Metabolism, How to Avoid Gaining Weight in the Sluggish Winter months.  The author had some great tips such as adding more resistance training to your exercise routine, along with cross training, keeping hydrated,  healthy eating and of course a good nights sleep. My girlfriend has a calorie counter. She wore it doing a hard core workout with weights and cardio combined. She found she was burning off just as many calories at lunch afterwards as she was while working out. I believe the weight training is key to this from what I have read. Instead of just walking and running, I may have to start hitting the gym.
