Meet Rachel, the best bartender in town!

If you have never ventured into the Dark Horse Tavern, located at 12 South Park Avenue here in Rockville Centre, then, you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Rachel. We call her Rachel #1 because believe it or not there are three Rachels working there. We have known Rachel M. for over six years and to say she is accommodating is an understatement. She greets you with a smile, has your drink in front of you before you even ask for it, and genuinely cares about her clients. We stopped by the other day to catch the Yankee game and grab a little pub food. Fortunately for us, there is regularly a Groupon that saves you 50 % off!  The Irish Potato Skins are a favorite because they sinfully combine all things I love –  Mini Shepherd’s Pies on roasted skins! We also are a fan of the Buffalo Chicken Wrap with a side of fries. The classic Brie Stuffed Pretzel with Fig Jam makes a great snack as well. The food is excellent, and if you are a fan of Craft Beer, they have a wonderful selection – one IPA made me chuckle, because they titled it “Dad Bod” – I didn’t try it because the IPA was up there at 8.1 and I would have been too dizzy to watch the Yankee game, but they also carry a healthy selection of Domestics – so I was in luck. There was a mother and daughter duo next to me enjoying Fish and Chips along with a classic Burger. When I asked them why they chose to have lunch at the Dark Horse, the older woman replied “This was my husband’s favorite place in town. Not only did he love the menu, but he liked visiting the lovely bartenders.” That made me smile. In addition to a tasty menu they also have outdoor space and even have the capabilities of catering parties. Next time you are walking up South Park Avenue, peak your head in the inviting open windows and give Rachel a wave. She will most definitely greet you with a smile and invite you in to have yourself a delicious meal!
