Lacrosse Summer Camps

Got a lacrosse fan? Here are some sure-to-please camp options for girls and boys of all skill levels!

For the Boys
Top Shott Lacrosse Camp: Under the direction of Patrick Jackson, this camp aims to ensure all players improve in the areas of stick handling, passing, dodging, shooting and defense. Top Shott is geared for kids ages 5-15. Guest lectures from college players are featured as are lots of contests. It is held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Midland Park High School at 250 Prospect Avenue in Midland Park for three weeks this summer: July 9-13, August 6-10, and August 13-17. Superdome: This camp focuses on developing and refining stickwork (basic and advanced), defensive technique, attack tactics, face-offs and goalie training. Weekly camps are offered from July 9 through August 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Grades 4-8 (grade as of September 2012). The Superdome is located at 134 Hopper Avenue in Waldwick. Camp fee is $350. Maroons Lacrosse: This one is led by Mike Pounds, head coach of the RHS Boys Lacrosse Team, in association with FORCE Performance Training. Regardless of a player’s age, skill level or athletic ability, this camp aims to develop the lacrosse skills and enhance the athletic ability of each individual. All facets of the game will be covered. The coaches are the RHS Boys Lacrosse Staff. The Rising Star Camp for grades 3-8 is held for two sessions. Session I runs from June 25-29 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Session II is set for July 2-6 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The Combines Challenge Camp, which is for the more serious player, is for grades 5-12 for one session. Mike Springer’s Vision Lacrosse: Vision camp focuses on intensive, top-notch instruction and strategy, allowing each player to improve their skills in a positive environment. It strives for a low coach-player ratio of 1:8 and has fun contests each day of camp.

Session options are:
– June 25-29 in Franklin Lakes
– July 16-20 at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey
– July 23-27 at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey
– July 30-Aug. 3 at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey

STEPS: Due to its location in Chester, Livingston and Boonton, STEPS is probably for those with a serious interest in the game. In its 11th year, STEPS is designed to teach the game of lacrosse to all level of players from beginners to the elite level player in a positive and value-oriented environment. The four-day camp is a progression of skills and techniques that will build each player’s individual abilities and team concepts. All camp sessions are held Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. STEPS also offers a mini-camp known as MOD-Crosse from 9 to 11 a.m. for ages 3-7.

Session dates/locations are as follows:
– June 25-28 at Black River Field, Chester
– July 9-12 at the RFL Fields, Boonton Twp
– July 16-19 at  Livingston Oval Fields in Livingston
– July 23-26 at Black River Fields in Chester

Just for the Ladies
Lady Maroons Camp: Run by Karla Mixon, head coach of the RHS Girls Lacrosse Team, this camp focuses on cross training agility skills and drills, developing basic and advanced individual stick skills, and learning offensive and defensive team concepts through both drills and games. Session I is from June 25-29 and Session II is from July 9-13. Both are held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Benjamin Franklin Middle School at 335 North Van Dien Avenue in Ridgewood. This camp is for rising 4th graders to rising 10th graders. The cost is $225 if postmarked by June 1st and $250 after that date. Musketeer Lacrosse Camp: Open to all skill levels, this camp seeks to develop athletic skill through individualized sport instruction, strengthen inner core values and principles, fair play and team work.  The camps are designed to give players the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to fulfill their goals and reach their potential. Every facet of the game is covered, teaching the skills required to become a valuable team player. For girls in grades 3-10, the camp will be held at Waldwick High School at 155 Wyckoff Avenue in Waldwick. Session I runs from June 25-29 and Session II is from July 9-13. It runs from Monday, June 25 through Thursday, June 28, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for grades 4-9 (grade as of Sept. 2012). The cost is $175.
