Downtown Summit Getting A Facelift

NF constructionWatch your step!  A recent morning drive through downtown Summit found more traffic congestion than usual.  Construction on sidewalks had pedestrians walking in the street and work vehicles on the road.  But be patient.  Downtown Summit is getting a facelift.

Most of the construction work in the Central Retail Business District (CRBD) is scheduled be completed at night, but will be allowed to continue into the rush hour, but no later than 10:00AM. Project work includes drainage and sewer upgrades, curbing and sidewalk replacements, installation of pedestrian bump outs, sitting walls, and decorative crosswalks as well as full milling and roadway resurfacing. This project is scheduled to be completed around September 30, 2016.

Construction on the remaining section of DeForest Avenue is scheduled to start on Wednesday, August 8 at 7:00am. It will take place along DeForest Avenue from Maple Street to Norwood Avenue at Kent Place Boulevard. Project work will include street light and concrete sidewalk replacements, traffic signal replacements, shared bike lane installation, as well as repaving and striping of DeForest Avenue. Work will be done during the day between the hours of 7:00am and 4:00pm. This project is scheduled to be completed around October 2, 2016.

The installation of conduit pipe also began this week on Beechwood Road from Union Place to DeForest Avenue. Conduit pipe will be installed throughout the entire downtown. Once complete, the conduit will be used for future technology updates within the CRBD. Most of the work will be completed at night between the hours of 9:00pm and 6:00am. This project is scheduled to be completed around September 15, 2016.

Updates for these projects will be posted to www.cityofsummit.org as they become available.
