Creative Ways to Ask Someone to the Prom

These days, there are plenty of ways beyond the traditional to invite your date to prom. It’s certainly not just the boys doing the asking, either! Here are some fun, creative ideas for popping the big question:

Cookies – High school students come up with unique ways to ask their sweeties to the prom. These cookies are by California home baker and blogger Arty McGoo. Or tuck the question into custom made fortune cookies personalized with your own message.

Flash Mob – Round up more than 20 friends, supply them with red roses, choreograph a dance routine and write out your plea on signs. Bring your potential date, blindfolded, to a spot on campus for the big production.

Food – Students are folding the question into piñatas, knitting it into scarves, spelling it out with pepperoni on pizza.

You Tube – High school students across the country are turning to YouTube to give an age-old rite of passage a new media moment of fame. Write an original song that you have composed yourself and play it or sing it on you tube.

Sidewalk Chalk – What a cheap and colorful way to ask someone to the prom, using chalk.

Clothing – Design a custom T-shirt using Uberprints.com. Get a white T-shirt. Write in regular marker the names of a bunch of guys who would potentially ask your date to prom. At the top of the shirt, write, “Who will you go to prom with? Wash the shirt to find out!” Write your name on the shirt too, but write it in permanent or fabric marker. When they take the shirt home and washes it, your name will be the only one left!

Puzzle – Write your prom night question onto any type of board and then cut it out into puzzle pieces.  When your date finds it, they can put it together and enjoy the surprise. Check out this personalized puzzle on etsy.com you can make from a digital photo.

Homework Problems – Get a bunch of equations that solve out to equal “PROM WITH ME”. Write it out so it looks like an actual school assignment, with a hint that the answer they should get is “yes”. Tell them to find you when they figured it out.

Kisses – Tell your potential date to come out into the front yard. Lay dozens of Hershey’s kisses all over the grass and a note that said “Now that I have kissed the ground that you walk on…Will you go to Prom with me?

Stuff  The Locker – Stuff a locker with stuffed animal cats and a note that reads “It would be purrrfect if you went to prom with meow!” Order their favorite animal in bulk online. Put a personal spin on it to make it truly unique!

Surprise in a Box – Mini Balloon-in-a-box would make a fun prom invitation/answer!

Pages of a Book – Take an antique or classic book, write in it “Start at page 53, and continue following the page numbers”, write your prom proposal as they flip through the pages.

Make a website – You can make a website which can ask her the question on your behalf. You can fill the website with her pictures, a video message, poems and basically anything you find suitable for this purpose. You can download a song from The Prom Song Singers. They have several versions of a song called “Will You Go To The Prom With Me,” each version uses a different name. Use the song to make a video.
