Brassica Opens at Van Aken

Something new and healthy has arrived to Van Aken: Brassica. The name “Brassica” refers to the healthy family of vegetables that includes kale, cauliflower and all of the cabbages. But don’t worry, carnivores, Brassica appeals to meat-eaters as well. Brassica, the creation of brothers Kevin and Darren Malhame, first opened in Columbus in 2015 with rave reviews. In fact, it made the “Best New Restaurant” lists of Columbus Alive, Columbus Monthly, and Columbus Underground magazines.

The Malhame brothers’ grandfather immigrated from Lebanon and their food celebrates those middle-Eastern flavors and ingredients. Inspired by falafel shops around the world, customers will choose between a whole wheat pita sandwich or a bowl of rice, lentils or greens. Next, choose from the plethora of toppings: can choose between from Slow Roasted Chicken Shawarma or Harissa Rubbed Beef Brisket. Or go meatless with a Falafel made from organic chickpeas with cilantro, garlic, cumin and chili pepper. Last, top it with hummus, babaganoush, pickled and spicy vegetables, and sauces. Pair it with one of their carefully selected wines by the glass or bottle, regional craft beers, cold-pressed juices, their minty pink lemonade or cold-brewed coffee on tap. Brassica will be sourcing from local farms for produce and uses antibiotic-free meats.
