What You Should And Should Not Buy Organic

Here is a great list of the top fruits and vegetables you should buy organic. Take this list with you the next time you are shopping. You will know where to spend and save your money. The benefits of buying organic–organic farming is good for the soil and in turn we are helping the small farmer stay in business and provide us with healthier food for our entire family. The studies are inconclusive right now as to the benefits of eating pesticides or avoiding them. I think we all know it has to be healthier for us in the long run to avoid digesting pesticides. This list was provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It is the top twelve fruits and vegetables containing the most pesticides and therefore, we should buy them organic if we can.

Percentage that were tested and found to contain pesticides:
1. Nectarine-97.3%

2. Celery-94.5%
3. Pear-93.7%
4. Peach-91%
5. Apple-91%
6. Cherry-91%
7. Strawberry-90%
8. Imported Grapes-86%
9. Spinach-83.4%
10. Potatoes-79.3%
11. Bell Pepper-68%
12. Red Rasberry-59%

On the flip side, here are the top ten fruits and vegetables you CAN SKIP buying organic and save your money. These either have thicker skins or are not prone to insects and therefore, don’t need a large amount of pesticides sprayed on them. These are not in any specific order.

Top 10 Fruits & Vegetables That You Don’t Have to Buy Organic:
1. Pinapples

2. Eggplant
3. Mangoes
4. Kiwifruit
5. Banana
6. Asparagus
7. Onion
8. Avocados
9. Broccoli
10. Cabbage

What I find funny is the fact that my kids and the insects both dislike the same vegetables.
