How a Parking Enforcement Officer Made My Day

A very nice–and unexpected–thing happened to me today. I went to town to do a little shopping and found a metered parking spot close to where I needed to go..but it happened to be right next to a parking enforcement car. I put what I thought was plenty of change into the meter, but once I started shopping, I totally lost track of time. As I raced down the block to my car, I could see the parking enforcement car was still next to mine with an officer in it…and my meter flashing red: “times up.” I looked at my windshield for ticket, but none was there. I glanced inside the car to see if the office was writing one, but she was not.

My first thought was to get in the car and get out of there before the officer realized that my meter was up. But she was facing the meter, so I obviously, she knew that my time was up. So as I pulled away, I rolled down my window and motioned for her to roll hers down. She smiled at me knowingly and I admitted, “My meter was up like 15 minutes ago…and you didn’t give me a ticket. Thank you so much. You absolutely made my day!” She replied with a sweet smile, “No problem. Hope you have a great day.”

Like I always say, so often in life it’s the smallest gestures that bring us such happiness! Thank you so much to that kind parking enforcement officer. I hope something good happens to you today too! You’ve inspired me to spread the kindness!
