5 Simple Tips for Creating a Family-Friendly Home
After seeing (and salivating) over Melissa McCarthy’s beautiful home in “A Home Where Function Meets Fabulous” I asked her interior designer, Krista Wostbrock of Wostbrock Home if she could give us a few tips on how to keep our homes beautiful without sacfricing our aesthetic. Thanks for the tips, Krista!
1. Use durable textiles like crypton fabrics and wool or synthetic rugs in fun and bold patterns to create a statement while not having to worry about destroying them with dirt or spills.
2. Add wainscoting in hallways and around corners to prevent little finger marks on your walls! This not only looks architecturally pleasing and adds character to the bones of the house but is actually more practical than paint as it is wipeable/easy to clean.
3. Don’t be afraid to splurge on window treatments and wall-coverings as these areas tend to be preserved and relatively untouched.
4. Use vinyl wall-coverings above wainscoting and in bathrooms to add texture, patterns, and color! There’s an abundance of vinyl wall-coverings on the market right now that feel and look just like natural fibers! Go explore and shop guilt-free 😉
5. Fiber seal EVERYTHING! From your rugs, to your sofas, pillows, and chairs. Contrary to popular belief, most damage is done from your method of cleaning spills and stains. Not from the actual stain itself.
