Here’s the 411 on how to cast your vote Nov 3!

“Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting.”
— Franklin D. Roosevelt

You’ve seen the lawn signs all over Summit, met the candidates at the train station early in the morning as they solicit for votes, and read a plethora of endorsements in the paper and online. The June primaries were “thisclose,” so your know you’re vote will count! Now it’s time to make a decision and make your voice heard.

You didn’t vote in the last election? This year there are no excuses because here’s all you need to know to make your vote count.

When can we vote in Summit? Polling locations throughout Summit will be open from 6:00AM until 8:00PM on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3.
Not sure if you’re registered to vote? The City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 512 Springfield Avenue, will open at 5:00AM on Election Day to help Hilltoppers determine if they are indeed registered. You can also call the Clerk’s Office at 908-273-6400.

Who’s running? Take a look at the sample ballot you received in the mail a week or so ago. (I’m sure it’s still in that pile of bills in the kitchen.) These are the new election ballots, redesigned to provide voters a clearer idea of the candidates and the positions they are running for. If you can’t find your sample ballot, there are online versions of the Sample Ballot available on the County Clerk’s website.  Click  here  to get to the website or view them on the free APP Union County Votes. voting booth

Where do I vote? If you’re not sure where you should go to vote, use the Polling Place Locator.  You can access the Locator by clicking  HERE.  Just type in your address and you will be told where to go to cast your vote. It couldn’t be any easier.  When you arrive at your polling spot, look for the United States flag. The flag indicates where you should enter each polling place. Please note that all polling places are handicapped accessible. For security reasons – remember this is a school day – some modifications have been made to the entrances and exits of school polling locations.  Signage will be present to direct voters to each polling place.

What happens after I cast my vote? After the polls close, members of the public are invited to view the election results at City Hall in the Whitman Community Room, located on the second floor above Summit Police headquarters. A tally of unofficial election results is expected to be completed by the Clerk’s Office by approximately 9:00PM.

So don’t pass this opportunity up! It’s your chance to have your voice heard and help decide the future of Summit!
