The Slamwich You Must Try
Last Friday, my husband and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at the new Slamwich Scratch Kitchen in Madison. The “farm to table deli” opened earlier in the week and is located at 143 Main Street, directly across from Madison Junior High School. Anyone familiar with Madison knows the location, as it is an old school diner that has been around for years. Although renovated, it still has a nostalgic diner feel.
Now let’s talk food; fresh ingredients from local farms, they cure their own meats on premise, prepare their own ketchup, mustard, and condiments, serve homemade pickles, and bake their own breads and rolls.
The menu has 12 signature “slammies” to choose from. I ordered the Pollo Loco and my husband ordered the Dirty Jerz Duck. While we waited for our food the owner urged us to sample their homemade biscuits with a dollop of homemade chutney, YUM! Both of our slammies were awesome – served with the homemade pickle spear and cole slaw – and unsweetened iced teas that included fresh sliced fruit.
My husband loved it so much he went back two days later for the house cured Pop That Pastrami and raved about it. He wants to eat his way through the list, next one he plans to try is the House Roast Beef slammie. Slamwich Scratch Kitchen also serves breakfast and offers a kids menu. There are tables in house available for dining.
My mouth is watering just thinking about it – looking forward to returning. For sandwich lovers like us, this place is going to become very popular.
