Morris Museum — Worth the Trip

If you are looking for something to do during these cold days of winter, take a trip to the Morris Museum in Morristown, NJ. I went with my twin boys (age 5) and a friend of theirs. It isn’t a children’s museum, but right now, there’s lots to keep the kids entertained. Currently, there is a dollhouse room, a train display, a lego exhibit, and there is always a dinosaur room, a small animal exhibit and some other hands on activities.

You can run through the whole thing in an hour or so, or plan to spend some more time, so the kids can enjoy the hands on activities. The exhibits are small, probably more exciting for a younger crew. I picked them up at preschool, stopped for lunch at a great diner a couple miles away — there’s also a Panera Bread. We only had about an 1 1/2 hours in the museum before we had to get back for the other kids, and I really wish I had more time to stay. The kids loved it, it was quiet, they built legos in a classroom, pretended they were dinosaur eggs and made wishes in the spiral wishing well. The boys entertained us all at dinner with the whole adventure and are already asking to go back. All in all, absolutely worth the trip — about 30 minutes from Ridgewood, much less from Chatham, Madison and Summit — and I will be keeping my eyes open for upcoming exhibits. FYI – there is a small kiosk where you can buy coffee.

I wasn’t planning on pictures, so excuse the poor quality, but here’s a snapshot of some of the fun.

Pretending to be baby dinosaurs in a nest. Guess who was the mama dinosaur? It's nice to be such an old mom I am past the point of embarrassment.
