Family Beach Olympics

I don’t have a favorite workout routine so I thought I would share another kind of workout. You can do this over your winter break if you are going somewhere warm or save it for this summer. Every year our family has a reunion at the beach for a weekend of fun. One favorite activity is Beach Olympics. We organize the teams in advance, making them even, and hand out rubber bracelets in two colors. We keep score, and give ribbons to the winning team at the “awards ceremony” at the end of the weekend. Here are some ideas for your own Family Olympics.

  1. Water Balloon Toss.
  2. Bucket Brigade.
  3. Tallest sandcastle contest.
  4. Sand darts.
  5. Human pyramid contest (prizes for highest pyramid, pyramid that lasts longest).
  6. Beach volleyball, but instead of trying to hit the ball back and forth, each team must catch the ball with a blanket and throw it back the same way.
  7. Most creative sandcastle contest.
  8. Egg and spoon relay.
  9. Hula Hoop a thon.
  10. Relay races, like dizzy bat races or life-jacket relay.
  11. Pie-eating contest.
  12. Boat races (dig channels in the sand, close enough to ocean to fill with water; use breath or waterguns to propel boats forward).
  13. Beach obstacle course.
  14. Sea wall contest (contestants stand with back to waves; last one standing wins).
  15. Beachball contest (which team can keep their beachball continuously in air for longest time).
  16. Frisbee throwing contest (prizes for length, accuracy).
  17. Deepest sand pit contest.(Make sure no one is in it)
  18. Buried alive contest (who can completely bury thier teammate under sand the fastest).
  19. Raft riding contest (which team can cram most team members on a raft without falling/sinking).
  20. Limbo contest.
  21. Tug-of-war.
  22. Beach scavenger hunt (who finds most items in assigned time; or who finds all items first).
