Try TRX Suspension Training
Have you ever been bored with your workout routine? Tired of the same class, same moves, same old same old? Sometimes when we fall into a workout rut, not only are we bored and unmotivated, but chances are we start to plateau and stop seeing results for the work we put in.
When this starts happening (and it will if you are a consistent exerciser) try something new and shake up your routines and your muscles. There are so many exercise classes, methods and equipment out there but one of my preferred choices is the TRX (Total body Resistance eXercise).
Developed by navy SEAL, Randy Hetrick, while serving overseas, he created the original “TRX” out of his gear and some straps. Because suspension training relies entirely upon your own body weight, not only are you working your muscles but also training those muscles to work together to move your body more efficiently. With easily adjustable straps and by simply changing the position of your feet or hands, you have a natural progression in training to make it harder as you get stronger. It’s also possible to get a cardiovascular workout using the TRX and it can be adapted to work both sides of the body or one side at a time. The simple yet ingenious suspension straps are small and portable and I have used these in my home, clients’ homes, garages, play structures, and even a tree with a sturdy branch. The TRX is a total body workout for resistance to plyometrics to flexibility. It has become mainstream in the last few years and more gyms have incorporated group TRX classes. If a class is not your thing you can purchase the TRX and beginner package online and it comes complete with a manual of basic TRX exercises. Whether you are just starting to exercise, rehabbing an injury, pregnant (with some precautions), or an athlete (Drew Brees and Nathalie Coughlin are believers) you can use the TRX equipment and exercises to meet all your fitness needs and goals while adding a little spice to your workout regime.
