6 Things Watermelon Can Do for Your Body
First published July 2018
I believe your pregnant body lets you know what it needs and what it doesn’t need, hence the reason I couldn’t stand the taste or smell of coffee or wine during the first trimester. I craved red meat during my pregnancy Madelyn like a T rex, and then found out I was anemic. When I was pregnant with Lorelei, I had an incessant craving for watermelon. Based on this and nothing else, I think it must be good for you.
Here are the watermelon nutrition facts:
- It is a fruit, so of course it is good for you.
- It is almost 92% water, (aptly named) so you get hydration, and a feeling of fullness.
- It is low in calories.
- It contains fiber, which aids digestion, weight loss and is an important dietary staple for a healthy heart.
- It is full of vitamin C & A, contains B vitamins and potassium and magnesium. These provide you with anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits. Vitamins A and C are also great for your hair and nails.
- There is some evidence that citrulline, an amino acid in watermelon, helps muscle soreness after exercise.
On top of all the health benefits, it is such a crowd pleaser. I don’t think I ever met a kid who turned down a slice!
