6 Foods That Balance the Aging Process

There is no miracle food, but there are some foods that counter some of the negative effects of aging at the cellular level. Eating foods rich in antioxidants, which remove free radicals from your skin and body,
will help to slow down the aging process.

1. Blueberries: Known to have the extremely high in antioxidants, blueberries will remove free radicals from your skin and body, helping to slow down the aging process. Free radicals contribute to wrinkles. Blueberries are also great for your urinary tract. Add your berries to a breakfast bowl or smoothie.

2. Brazil nuts: These contain selenium which repairs cell damage and can slow down the aging process of the skin. Cod also contains selenium. Try Our Creole Cod or Cod Casserole.

3. Cucumbers: The catch is, you have to eat the peel. It contains silica which boosts collagen productions, thereby reducing wrinkles. Try our cucumber sandwiches or Indian cucumber raita.

4. Guava: Not only are guavas sweet and delicious, they are rich with vitamin C–in fact four times higher than the content found in oranges. The anti-wrinkle and anti-aging effects of vitamin C rich foods have been linked to the ability to stimulate the production collagen and elastin which help keep your skin firm and elastic.

5. Tomatoes — Not only do tomatoes help decrease risk of heart disease, cancer and high cholesterol, the lycopene in tomatoes acts a natural sun block … always a must for healthy skin. Try our Roasted Tomato with Immune-boosting Garlic Soup or our Tomato Corn Pie.

6. Avocado — Like the omega-3s found in fish, this key guac ingredient has inflammation-fighting fatty acids. It’s also filling, delicious and versatile. My favorite lunch is whole wheat toast with avocado, tomato and Adobe seasoning. Quick, easy, nutritious and delicious.

The above foods fight aging in the skin, but your skin isn’t the only place you will see outward signs of aging.
• Keep that smile beautiful: To protect your gums, eat mango and to keep your teeth from yellowing, try cranberry juice.

• To keep your hair full and young looking, eat eggs for iron and biotin, carrots for vitamin A and beans, which are high in protein. Protein improves hair growth and make the hair itself stronger.
