Wild Forest: A Lego Safari

You and the kids can check out a special summer event at the Bronx Zoo that aims to connect young minds to nature and inspire visitors to help build a future for wildlife. “Wild Forest: A Lego Safari” features an amazing display of Lego-brick animal sculptures including lemurs, rhinos, flamingos, gorillas, a zebra and a giraffe, that can be found along the wooded path near the Zoo Center. Families can easily spend a day learning how the Lego Master Builders’ creations compare to their real-life counterparts at the zoo. Kids can also check out hands-on activities in the Construction Zone, where they can make their own wildlife sculptures (daily 11am–4pm), or they can work with professional builders on the Reptile House lawn (Sat Aug 11). There will also be workshops with the Museum for African Art, where crafty youngsters can make animal prints (Sat Aug 11, Sun Aug 12 11am–3pm). The fun continues with Wildlife Theater performances along the safari path (showtimes are at 11:30am, 1:30pm, 2:30pm, 3:30pm on Saturdays and Sundays), while kids can run, dance, jump and crawl on the Animal Activity Trail. For must-see entertainment, don’t miss the original production of Avenue Zoo, onstage at Asia Plaza, featuring a guest performance by Kate Monster, the puppet star of the Tony Award–winning musical Avenue Q.

“Wild Forest: A Lego Safari” runs from July 7 to Sept 3 at the Bronx Zoo Wildlife Conservation Society. Free with museum admission. All ages. The Bronx Zoo is open daily from 10 am-5 pm weekdays, 10 am-5:30 pm weekends. Adult admission is $16, children (3-12 years old) $12, children under 3 are free, seniors (65+) are $14.
