Upcoming Dates for Baseline Concussion Testing at Valley’s Sports Institute

As part of its Concussion Management Program, The Valley Hospital Sports Institute conducts baseline concussion (a.k.a. pre-concussion) testing for athletes ages 10 and older. My daughter did it today and it’s quick and easy. If an athlete does experience a concussion, he or she is re-tested and that data is compared with the baseline results to properly monitor recovery and determine when it is safe for the player to return to active sports.

The upcoming testing is set for Monday, September 10 at 4:30 and 6:00 p.m. at The Kraft Center at 15 Essex Road in Paramus. Pre-registration is required and the cost is $25. Please call 201-447-8133 to sign-up.

Football, hockey, soccer, and lacrosse are contact sports with the highest risk of head injury. Valley’s ImPact (Immediate Post Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is an innovative computerized evaluation that assesses the effects and severity of a concussion. The testing includes a battery of computerized neurocognitive evaluations including measures of verbal and visual memory, attention span, brain processing speed and reaction time.
