Tres Amigas

prepared by and photo by Emily S. Downs

Spiked limeade… surprisingly refreshing.  Think of it as a twist on the Margarita.  Minus the tequila.

Size: serves 6-8

Ingredients:
Ice cubes
Mexican beer (2 bottles)
FRESH LIMEADE: 4 cups water, 2 1/2 cups fresh lime juice (from 25 limes), 1/2 cup superfine sugar
Coarse salt
Lime wedges
Hot sauce (optional)

Directions:

FRESH LIMEADE:  Combine 4 cups water, 2 1/2 cups fresh lime juice, and 1/2 cup superfine sugar in a large pitcher.  (makes 6 1/2 cups)

Fill a large pitcher with ice cubes.  Stir in Mexican beer, 1 1/3 cups limeade, and lime wedges.  (For a traditional finish, add a dash or two of hot sauce.)  Pour into salt-rimmed glasses.
