The Safest Cities in NJ
You might sleep a little more soundly after hearing this. According to CreditDonkey’s recent study on safety, Chatham and Madison are in the top 50 safest cities in NJ. Only towns with a population of 10,000 or more were chosen. The study reviewed FBI Crime Report data for 2014 to determine number of violent crimes and property crime rates per 1,000 residents for each city. Although Chatham came in at #4 and Madison at #50, the difference in their crime rate is marginal–so don’t feel blue Madison. For instance, Chatham had 0 violent crimes per 1000 and Madison had .2 per 1000. Chatham had only 1 burglary per 1000 residents–about 9 a year total compared to Madison with 1.2 per 1000 residents.
