The beautifully written debut novel from Gae Polisner, The Pull of Gravity is aptly titled. It pulls you in.
Written from the perspective of Nick, a relatable teen who wrestles with big decisions and encounters tragedy, the book has a tie-in to Steinbeck’s  Of Mice and Men and the classic theme “the best laid plans of mice and men oft go awry”.
My favorite character was the quirky, intelligent Jaycee, who hatches a plan for a road trip with a noble and poignant mission. I loved the juxtaposition of Nick and Jaycee’s personalities, and the very real-feeling bond that develops between them. Another highlight of the story is the Yoda wisdom sprinkled throughout.
The book categorized as a Young Adult novel (appropriate for ages 12 and up), but it’s much more than that and would be an enjoyable read for any adult.
Ms. Polisner’s second novel will be published in spring of 2014 and I can’t wait to read it.
