St Patrick’s Day Parade in Cleveland; a Proud Tradition

St. Patrick’s Day Parade  •   Friday, March 17 at 1:04pm.

The tradition started 125 years ago: the very first Parade in Cleveland was in 1842. A Catholic priest, Rev. Peter McLaughlin, organized it. Back then, Father McLaughlin believed in abstinence from alcohol. His St. Patrick’s Day celebration began with mass at St. Mary’s on the Flats which was the only Catholic church in Cleveland’s city limits at that timeIt ended with a family banquet.

My have things changed! Now days, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day...and everyone seems to be partake in at least a little drinking. This year, over 10,000 participants are expected to march, float, jig, rid, dance or unicycle in honor of St. Patrick and Ireland.

Find out who will win the award for best float, best Bagpipe Bands, best children’s band and more…

The honor of this year’s Grand Marshal title goes to Roger S. Weist. The title of Mother of the Year goes to Mary Angela Murphy.
