Ski Helmets… No longer a Fashion Faux Pas!
Hats off to to this Ridgewood based start up company– Helmet Huggers. Along with her daughters Stephanie and Natalie, son Jordan, and designer Ania Hamman, Ridgewood resident, Melanie Stern has found a way to bring fashion and safety back to the slopes. It all started when Melanie admired her son’s devil horned ski helmet cover, but found herself disappointed when she couldn’t find a chic, fashionable one for herself. Her solution– the creation of Helmet Huggers.
Helmet Huggers produce high-end helmet covers for women skiers and snowboarders. Their mission is to bring glamour, fashion, and safety back to the slopes. These covers are the perfect accessory to enhance any ski or snowboard helmet. The covers are created by combining a chic spandex pattern with an outside faux fur lining, and a small elastic bungee that ensures the Helmet Hugger will fit over any ski and snowboard helmet. Every Helmet Hugger has a small opening in the back that allows your goggle clip to slip through and fasten effortlessly. Not only will you be safe on the slopes but you will look like a sexy snow bunny!
Even though they have just started their company a few months ago, these entrepreneurs have big dreams for Helmet Huggers. Currently, these must have covers are being carried at the Sky Top Resort in Sky Top, PA, two stores in Crans-Montana Switzerland, and on their website. They are hoping to expand their presence at major ski resorts on the East and West Coasts, and eventually Europe. Men, don’t be jealous– Huggable Helmets are looking into creating a men’s line as well– sans the faux fur, of course. But right now while they are in their early stages of business they are focusing their efforts on gaining publicity so they can make all of their future visions possible. However the company develops, their number one priority is to have fun with it– and look glamorous while doing it!
