Preteen Halloween … How sexy is too sexy?

Before sitting down to write this post, I donned my schoolteacher bonnet and dusted off the chastity belt. At the risk of sounding like a prudish old fart, the halloween costumes which scare me the most are ones like the following:

Costumes like these clearly intend to take an idea or character and sex it up. Scarecrows don’t have such great legs, and this cop ain’t catching anything but an STD. If this nurse shows up at your bedside, chances are you’ll have a heart attack. Halloween is, of course, a time to break out of your comfort zone, and try on something new for size. It is natural for girls to want to get a little crazy, but how far do you let it go? Little kids, in even the shortest of skirts or the silliest of outfits are adorable. Older teenagers, who are more capable of comprehending the power of their sexuality can choose to go for the “wow” factor. Somewhere between adorable and wow is extremely uncomfortable. You’ll know it when you see it, probably because you will have a guttural impulse to avert your eyes.  Even though Halloween is mostly innocent and occurs only once a year, probably better to exert your parental privilege and keep your preteens in the PG range. They’ll have plenty of time to flaunt it when they’ve actually got it.

I’d love to hear from you — am I being a bore or do you agree?
