Pick Your Own Farms

You can bring the whole family to the farm, all of which offer PYO peaches in the summer months. Some farms offer hay rides, hen houses, and other kid-friendly activities. Just be sure to call and verify the vitals before heading out the door. Bake a peach pie, cobbler, or try making Emily’s Arugula, Yellow Tomato, and Nectarine Salsa (she also recommends using peaches in the recipe).

Find a pick your own farm near you at pickyourown.org. This website provides local listings of pick your own farms in the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and other countries. There are crop calendars for each local area to tell you what is available to pick throughout the year, local weather forecasts and really easy illustrated directions to show you how to make jam, jelly, salsa, pickles, spaghetti sauce, applesauce, apple butter and 150 other recipes with step-by-step directions to can, freeze, dry or preserve the harvest.
