Oh… To Be A Celebrity Stylist For The Oscars!

I can only image what it’s like to be a A-list stylist the week of the Oscars — a dream job. I picture them knee-deep in vaults of couture and combing the streets of Rodeo Drive, searching for the most perfect gowns and luxury jewels for their famous clients to wear down the red carpet.  Of course, the most popular question of the night and what everybody is dying to know is, “Who are you wearing?”
So truly, it isn’t the nominating committee, but the stylists who yield the most power.  A fabulous dress is much less forgettable than a silly trophy! Style-makers are in control of which designers are lucky enough to have their names and creations be the talk of the town.  With this power comes the enormous pressure to get it right. Not only do these stylists have to please their famous clients, they have to impress the entire world, including all the fashion critics.  The hardest part must be trying to stay in front of the curve to pick out the next best look.
Even with the potential to be ridiculed by the likes of Joan Rivers, I think the perks must out weigh the stress. Browsing through all that museum-quality couture, being able to actually touch the biggest, rarest jewels in the world… I can’t imagine anything more fabulous — with the notable exception of being the one bejeweled!  With a billion people watching, they send their tinsel-town celebs down the red carpet and watch and wait expectantly. What will the critics say? What is it that makes an Oscar ensemble worthy?  It’s the gowns that get people talking — which are the best, which are the most memorable? Even if they get it horribly wrong, it isn’t the end of the world. Let’s face it… in this industry is there really such a thing as bad press?
