Girls’ Night Out…Minus the Calories

Ever notice that every Girls’ Night Out winds up centered…around food?!?!  This can add up to a lot of calories!  When my girlfriends and I have an opportunity to get together our pattern is to go out for a nice dinner, head to happy hour for a cocktail and some appetizers or meet at a friend’s house for a few glasses of wine and some high calorie snacks.  Now that summer is feeling extra close, these get togethers are having an increasingly negative effect on my diet plans!  However, having fun with the girls doesn’t have to turn into a diet buster.  At my last dinner date with the girls, we talked about switching up our routine and having a different kind of get together.

Here are 5 ideas for a date with the girls that DON’T involve consumption!

1. Take a pole dancing class!
What better way to bond with your friends by embarrassing yourself in a pole dancing class!  Dream Dance Fitness in East Meadow offers a beginner’s class that will keep you all on your toes.  You can even find a great deal on livingsocial.  If you have a big group, you can also check out Home Party Diva from Massapequa and have your own private party so you can laugh at each other in the privacy of your own home.

2. Activate your Pinterest side.
Have you ever tried to make something on Pinterest and the end product looked nothing like the original?  Well, you’re not alone!  Grab a group of girls and sign up for one of Suite Pieces awesome workshops.  They will walk you through the step by step instructions that will leave you with a fantastic piece for your home and the techniques you will need to start your own project. Suite Pieces has two locations to check out, Massapequa and Huntington.

3. Enjoy a Spa Night
Rough week?  Our first thought is a large glass of wine at happy hour, which is also a large glass of calories! And we never have just one glass, right!  Well, another way to recuperate from that stressful work week is to grab the girls and head over to Farmingdale’s
Spa L’acQua, where you will have access to a variety of luxurious, relaxing experiences.  Spa L’acQua is known for its state of the art showers, tubs, and assorted oil scents that will help everyone stay relaxed during their stay.  Be sure to check them out on Groupon for some fabulous deals.
4. Sign up for Plant Nite
Plant Nite
is a take on Paint Nite where you get together and make terrariums.  You will leave de-stressed and with an awesome little piece of decor for your home.  Visit Plantnite.com for the most up to date places where you and the girls can sign up.  Check out the
Wild Rose in Farmingdale for their next Plant Nite on April 2.
5. Take a Walk
Long Island is home to some beautiful parks with fantastic scenery.
The Massapequa Preserve is bustling with activity now that we are starting to get some warmer weather.  What better way to catch up with friends than to go take a long walk together surrounded by trees and gardens.  Walking through this beautiful park, you will feel like you have left suburbia!
