DUE 360-Small Plates, Big Tastes
It has been a surgical supply store, a hot doggery, a beloved coffee shop, and an Italian trattoria – and now 50 Maple Street (at the corner of Maple Street and Union Place) in Summit has been reimagined as Due 360, an Argentine/Italian Tapas restaurant. Summit has been missing a “small plate” style restaurant and so, many Hilltoppers will be happy with this new arrival. The bad news is these tapas can get pricey – and I may have still been a little hungry when the check came! The good news is, I thought it was delicious and really wanted to order more and more!
We visited one afternoon at noontime. The service was very good, but our lunch for three (with tap water as our beverage) ran us $60 before tip. Outdoor seating is a big plus here, and indoors is not bad either. The earth tone pallet throughout the smallish space is modern and soothing.
We were particularly impressed with the Shrimp Ala Ajillo ($10) a delicious little plate of pan seared shrimp with bean puree, white wine glaze and chili and lemon oil. We also loved a very small bowl of charred faro with wild mushrooms, parmesan, bay cream and chives ($6.) The Polpo Ala Plancha ($12) was beautiful and tasty. The three little servings of tender octopus were presented with fingerling potatoes, topped with shaved red onion and sat atop a roasted pepper romesco.
Since we were three females out to lunch we had to try a salad – there were three or so to choose from. Our choice was the Baby Kale Salad ($7) with red onion, goat cheese and caramelized pecans. While perfectly fine, the salad sat awkwardly on only a small portion of the plate and contained only a few teeny tastes of the goat cheese crusted in ladyfingers. The Zuppa Toscana ($6), not nearly enough to share, was also fine; just not memorable.
If you are not a good sharer, and really want your own complete plate, Due 360 also offers Platos Grande, such as Argentian Hangar Steak ($28), Pork Shank Giambotta ($25) and Double Bone In Lamb ($37.)
All in, it was a fun and tasty experience and, as with so many Summit eateries, it is a BYOB.
