Cleveland Reads!

Reading is critical to ensure success in school and in life. Studies show that being read to as a child and having books in the home are the two most important predictors of future academic success. But two-thirds of low-income families don’t own a single children’s book! The Cleveland Kids Book Bank is on a mission to change that. Since 2013, they have placed 1000s of books in the hands of children in need through 60 Little Free Libraries in Cleveland neighborhoods.little free library

They also distribute books to:

  • Preschools, after school programs and tutoring programs.
  • Camp Forbes for inner-city campers.
  • Pediatricians to share with Medicaid patients as they prescribe daily reading.
  • Churches, libraries and schools who give out books at their summer lunch programs.

As of July 2016, they have distributed 102,303 books to local children and more than 3,000 adult books!
