Ancient Chinese Relics
Discovery Times Square is more than a museum. It is New York’s destination for unique and immersive exhibits. The recently opened, “Warriors: Defenders of China’s First Emperor,” a new exhibition of artifacts, including 10 of the terracotta soldiers created more than 2,000 years ago to protect China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, in his afterlife. The new exhibition, which succeeds a popular show featuring examples of the Dead Sea Scrolls, will also include a set of gates from an ancient Han burial chamber, never before publicly displayed, and 20 other artifacts that will be shown in the United States for the first time, among dozens of other pieces.
The vast system of imperial burial vaults containing some 6,000 life-size terracotta figures of soldiers and horses was discovered accidentally in 1974, outside the city of Xian, and the site has long been one of China’s top tourist attractions. This exhibition is expected to continue through the end of the summer.
