Museum of Early Trades & Crafts
The Milliner’s Tale Opening Reception
Museum of Early Trades & Crafts, 9 Main Street, Madison
Sunday, January 17 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm
The Museum of Early Trades & Crafts in Madison will be hosting a reception to celebrate the opening of their latest exhibit, The Milliner’s Tale: the Craft of Hat Making!
The Milliner’s Tale examines the millinery trade from the 18th-20th century perspective of the milliner as a craftsperson. The millinery trade, along with dressmaking and other sewing industries, provided women with an acceptable occupation at a time when few women worked outside the home.
The hats featured in the exhibit are only a few examples of the hats made and worn during earlier times. Also included in the exhibit will be select modern pieces created by 21st century milliners – evidence that millinery is a craft still very much alive.
Hats are encouraged!
Light refreshments will be served
