This year the Kips Bay Decorator Show House opted to host this year’s event at a glassy new construction rather than an older, elegant townhouse.

The designers managed to use the features of modern architecture to their advantage. The floor-to-ceiling windows, blank white walls, and panoramic views of the Hudson River created an ideal canvas for designers to let loose. And since every room started out as a bright, white box, essentially, color seemed to explode—green is very popular this year. A few of my favorites: A pair of antique parchment chairs added sleekness to Brian del Toro’s study.

The paneled walls and the blue and emerald green jewel tones blended together perfectly in del Toro’s study. Laura Bohn Design Associates created the “Kidz Rule” bedroom. Painted Benjamin Moore chartreuse, Laura used a space-saving unit that converts from a desk to a twin bed from Resource Furniture, and lined some walls with fuzzy brush tiles and 3-D tiles from Robin Reigi. Scott Sanders created “The Cabana” lounge. A fun twist on the upholstered sofa with the overstuffed pillows give that fun, unexpected poolside cabana feel.  Scott used wall to wall jute carpeting with a bright aqua custom hand spun mohair area rug on top. Jute grasscloth wallpaper in “Split Pea” was by Philip Jeffries, Ltd.  The sofa and curtain fabric is a newly colored re-issue of a vintage Scalamandre fabric. Loved the terrycloth curtains which are perfect for summer, but reverse to velvet when it gets colder.
