7 Signs You May Be Gluten-Intolerant

More about Going Gluten-Free

Gluten free is trendy, but not everyone should adopt a GF diet. If you consistently have any of the following symptoms, you might want to try GF for a couple of weeks and see how you feel. If you feel better, perhaps limiting your wheat products is a good idea, and can help improve your overall feeling of wellbeing. Disclaimer: You can’t be tested for celiac disease if you are off gluten, so if your symptoms are severe, see your doctor before restricting your diet.

1. Bloating and abdominal pain
2. Diarrhea and/or constipation especially after high gluten intake
3. Lethargy
4. Skin rashes
5. Headaches
6. Joint or muscle pain
7. Difficulty concentrating or generally feeing “fuzzy” in your thoughts

Going gluten free is getting easier and easier.

Tip: If you are going to give it a try, opt for healthy alternatives to bread products rather than GF substitutions. eg. salad over a sandwich with GF bread. Also, be aware of sneaky gluten in sauces, dressings and marinades. Read the label. And again, because you do NOT want to miss a celiac diagnosis, if your symptoms are disrupting your life, and you suspect gluten, be tested before altering your diet.
